How's That verschijnt tijdens het cricketseizoen wekelijks

Redactioneel

Match report VRA Dames vs Quick Nijmegen, 28/5 (T20)

It was the perfect day for cricket: sunny, light breeze, not too hot and late start, so we were all sharp as knives! And that resulted in finally winning the toss by Captain Nathi! Good start and we choose to bat first. Git & Nathi opened the batting, and they went off! The field was nice and quick so many fours followed, although they weren’t shy to run many singles too.

On the last ball of the 6th over Git got caught&bowled by Anja, and had to leave the field with 31 runs and a partnership of 60. Not too bad! Our beloved Sjoukje came in, all the way from London (so technically our overseas). She showed that practice not necessarily makes perfect, cause without attending any trainings (due to living in another country) she kicked ass! Nathi & Sjoukje formed the perfect duo and made sure that the rest of the team brought their gear for nothing. Together they finished the innings off with a great partnership of 128! Nathi 66* and Sjoukje 60* which lead to a great final score of 188-1.

A nice score to defend and pretty confident we started off the second innings. Although Nathi batted for the whole 20 overs in the first innings she had still the enough energy to start the bowling (unbelievable!). Haas, Lotte (our newbee!) and I followed and we’re doing not too bad (although we were giving Quick Nijmegen a bit too many presents..). Sasa and Mireille ran many singles until Nathi used her bionic arm to run out Sasa from Mid On. Awesome throw, Nathi was clearly on the roll!

We used this moment to sharpen up: less wides and better fielding was our task. And some more ‘ooohs’ and ‘aaahs’ to put some pressure on the batters. And this we did. We fielded much better, less wides were bowled and the pressure was on. Lotte the Newbee bowled 4 great overs in a row and also Lot did great, although it took a while for the next wicket to come. But then Super Sjoukje started bowling and a great collaboration between her and Super Sally (catch!) made Mireille leave the field too (after I dropped her 2 overs earlier..). In the penultimate over another wicket was taken by Sjoukje, this time with the help of Super Nathi with a great catch on mid off! And in my last over I finished the game with another wicket (clean bolwed on the off stump) and that was it!

It was a great day with pretty good cricket allround and a lovely Cricketfield-cake made by Mama Hennis!

Next week: T20 Hilkamp - VRA!

Cheers, Icara

Match report VRA Zami 1 vs GroenGeel, 28/5

VRA Zami 1 verslaat GroenGeel

Olivier een prachtige 5 for 20 in 7,. Daneesh een even belangrijke 1 for 16 in 6.

Match report VRA U10 vs MOP, 29/5

VRA U10 was up early for their home game against MOP (U10?). Following their warmup in the nets, shared with their heroes from the VRA first team, they took to the field to brush up on fielding skills, an area identified for improvement following the previous game.

In the mean time, the MOP crowd arrived, after an (even earlier) early morning departure from Vught. A true 'home advantage' if there ever was one.

Skipper Mats won the toss and, feeling the pitch was somewhat dewy, decided to field first. Step up two giant MOP openers. The two boys swung the 'willow' and accumulated runs at a brisk pace, dispatching a number of good length balls for boundaries, supported well by their batting order. Bowling was a clear area of improvement with skipper Mats, Josh, Caspar and Vince bowling economically.

Fielding on the ground was good, though a few dropped catches allowed momentum passing to the opposition. After more big hitting at the tail MOP ended their innings with an impressive 236 runs, VRA claiming 9 scalps though.

VRA opening pair Aarham and Josh took up their positions, facing a daunting task. They stepped up, hitting 52 runs off their allotted 4 overs. Mats and Kris capitalised from this flying start with more quick runs. Thereafter runs were harder to get, all credit due to tight bowling from MOP. Shot of the day played by Morris, hammering a good length ball for 4 through the covers! Facing an almost impossible task, in came Caspar and Josh (the latter after agreeing with MOP to have their top batsmen play 2 innings each).

Caspar cleverly rotated strike and the mighty swings from Josh continued. Another 52 runs were scored in 24 balls with Josh ending the onslaught with a brutal 72 runs.

The scorers convened and calculated the totals in terms of SmashCricket rules. VRA 325 - MOP 301!

After a short, jubilant celebration, everyone was off to the clubhouse for a deserved lunch. Well done lads!

Match report VRA 4 vs Dosti, 29/5

2016 – Fourth Match against Dosti
Thappa & Awais reduce Dosti to ashes.

Clouds hovering with thunderstorm as prediction, all paused, to witness the bowling firepower of Thappa & Awais. JD the stand in captain lost the toss but won the gambit. We were put in to field. With perfect conditions on stock – New slogan “Together”, we were geared up for witnessing, one of the finest performance of swing bowling with a good pace.

Ram started the attack, from the word go, there was no room given for scoring freely. A disciplined bowling with out giving any extras started off excellently with a maiden. Harpreet behind the stumps, made sure that the energy is always flowing. The firepower was ignited … Thappa with this inswinging deliveries was threatening from the first ball. There was a loud shout for LBW and Sohail turned down. Thappa was breathing fire already .. He got his scalp in his fourth ball – LBW . The next batsman was holding the bat like Graham Gooch. Not aware the kind of ball his was to witness, atleast the out going batsman should have informed him about the bowling . But it is understandable that the out going batsman was still doing a replay in his mind … as state of shock .

The batsman in was in line of the ball to leave it .. Just that bowler had different idea .. Remember Patrick Patterson delivering an inswinger to Krish Srikanth .. Krish Srikanth try to leave the ball but just that the off stump had an arcobatic landing .. In our case, Leg stump was uprooted with an instant roar from the fielders and we were assured that this is going to be a very interesting contest. The batsman didn’t want to leave the crease and was in state of shock . Two wickets down in second over. The other opener was always looking for singles .. But the number 3 batsman has given some information on his way back to the incoming batsman(Just stay away from Thappa to save yourself ).

Ram maintained his tight, stingy second over .. Thappa now was breathing fire .. Third ball in his second over he produced another stunner .. Bowled .. No clue to the batsman .. Next was a dot ball .. Nearly missed kissing the bat .. fifth ball .. Again .. Gone ..bowled by Thappa .. By this time they were caught up with the magic spell. The number of wickets were more than runs ..

There was a shot down the mid on directly to the hands to Niksy and the non striker was interested in fielder however the striker was half way down .. A great throw from Niksy and Harpreet behind the stumps made no mistake .. Five down .. They never looked back actually. They marched on .. They were happy that Thappa was taken off the attack.. Second change .. Awais came to second change :-) .. He made sure that the tail doesn’t wag. His share is also in waiting. He bowled his heart out and bowled the batsman. There was some good field placement. Khaled moved swiftly to take a very good catch. Another catch to JD. He makes no mistake in taking those catches. Ram was constantly creating pressure from the other end. He should have got couple of wickets but this game allows only 11 to play. However Ram cleaned up the last man standing for the runs .

It was the last wicket and Awais took the scalp. The look of the batsman who got bowled didn’t change actually irrespective of the bowler .. They were generally shocked.

In this game .. there were 6 bowled , 2 catches, 1 runout , 1 LBW . Match got over with out even drinks break (forget even about lunch). Viju made sure that euthanasia is administered with his powering shots.

“Together” – We shall make great progress and enjoy the great sport!

Kudos to Sohail for doing umpiring from our side.

“If I missed to mention something it is my memory which has deceived – Not their great efforts”
