Bende van Vijf presenteert: VRA The Next Level
Onder het motto Alle Hens Aan Dek presenteerde een Comité van Vrijwilligers op 9 februari de plannen voor 2019 en verder. Het Bestuur hoefde een keertje helemaal niks te doen. Dat is ook wel eens prettig in deze drukke tijden. Allereerst werd de gloednieuwe design BAR bewonderd. Een bijzonder geslaagd project van Theo Lindemann dat goed laat zien wat de bedoeling is van VRA The Next Level: daadwerkelijk doen wat je kunt doen voor VRA. De borrel liep dan ook al snel vol met zo’n 45 betrokken leden, ouders en donateurs. Maar wat ging er deze avond gebeuren?

Vrijwilligers gezocht
Zonder hap en slok is het lastig toeven op de club. Dus werd eerst Layla in de bloemen gezet. Zij is dit jaar verantwoordelijk voor bar en keuken. De hele avond verzorgde zij een walking dinner. Perfect verzorgd, dus iedereen blij. Zo ook presentator Floris Kappelle die een informele avond beloofde over formele zaken. In zijn bekende losse stijl werd het plan ontvouwd om meer leden te mobiliseren voor alle klussen die onze club verlangt. Inderdaad: Alle Hens Aan Dek. En dat is nu meer nodig dan ooit. Vrijwilligers, daar gaat het dus om. Om een voorbeeld te stellen werd de voltallige familie Van Gulik eens mooi in het zonnetje gezet: Peter, Annemarie, Nina, Mara en Paul. Dat moeten we hebben, complete families die meehelpen om van VRA een succes te maken. Kom maar op!

Presentatie VRA-organsiatie
Op groot scherm toonden Harold en Floris vervolgens een slordige 21 sheets met evenzovele Commissies. Dat klinkt heel formeel, maar het zat allemaal heel slim en overzichtelijk in elkaar. Wie in een commissie plaatsneemt, zal precies weten wat er van hem of haar wordt verlangd. En met wie er kan worden samengewerkt. Met ingang van dit seizoen zal duidelijk zijn wat er moet gebeuren. En het mooie is: elke commissie-voorzitter kan samen met de commissieleden een Jaarplan opmaken. Er is al veel animo, getuige de bereidheid bij aanwezigen en anderen die iets voor de club willen doen.

Vooruitblik 2019
Focus van de presentatie lag op de Vooruitblik. En de herinrichting van de club op alle fronten. Voor allen werd inzichtelijk gemaakt wat er op de club moet gebeuren. Met in stukken gehakte taken. Precies wat de leden willen. Doel: A: alle taken groot en klein binnen de club invullen, structureel en operationeel, en B: zorgen dat iedereen straks zijn steentje bijdraagt. Zodat VRA echt voor iedereen gaat leven. VRA is er ten slotte VOOR de leden, DOOR de leden. Dan wordt de betrokkenheid vanzelf groter. En het mooie is: je hoeft niet bang te zijn dat je voor jaren hangt als je JA zegt. Je kunt intekenen voor een operationele taak zoals een dagje helpen tijdens een ODI. Of voor structureel werk binnen een commissie, of zelfs het Bestuur. Dat laatste gaat dan wel iets meer tijd kosten.

Vele handen, lichter werk
Heel concreet: meer leden gaan wat doen. En dat is mooi want het Bestuur heeft wel erg veel op haar bordje. Vele handen maken licht werk. Hopelijk ook tijdens de OPBOUWDAG op zaterdag 6 april. Elk team wordt dan geacht met minimaal 4 man/vrouw te komen helpen. Captains…? Verder wordt er gezocht naar een logeerplek voor twee topspelers. Heb je een flat leegstaan of twee kamers vrij, laat het snel weten. Floris en zijn commissie bestaande uit Harold Horsman, Jeroen A.G. Mulder, Willem van Mierlo en Nigel Drenthe besloten de bijzonder flitsende avond met de uitreiking van de Paul Polak Prijs aan Sieb Mulder, de über-vrijwilliger van VRA. Klapstuk: een wervelende Cricket Quiz met Kahoot!, die gewonnen werd door Prasun Banerjee en Richard Finlay. Binnenkort ontvangen leden bericht met vacatures en taakjes. Doe jij ook mee? The Gang of Five presents: VRA Next Level

Hailing the motto All Hands on Deck the Committee of Volunteers presented its plans for 2019 and beyond at VRA on 9 February. For once, the Board didn’t have to exert itself; a much needed break in these busy days. Firstly, the brand new design bar was admired – a particularly successful project carried out by Theo Lindemann, that clearly illustrates VRA Next Level’s new direction: Roll up your sleeves and do what you can for VRA. The gathering quickly became animated with around 45 dedicated members, parents and donors showing up. But what’s in the cards for this evening?

Volunteers wanted

Without a bite to eat and a drink in hand, we’d feel a bit lost at the club. So we started by giving Layla a big bunch of flowers to show our appreciation. She is running the VRA bar and kitchen this year, and provided a “walking dinner” for this evening. Perfectly catered, so everyone was happy. Including presenter Floris Kappelle, who promised to deliver an informal evening on formal matters. In his inimitable slap-dash style he unveiled the plan to mobilise more members for all the big and little jobs that need to be done at our club. As promised: All Hands on Deck. More necessary now than ever. Volunteering, that’s what it’s all about. We already are lucky with many steadfast volunteers and we shone a spotlight on one example, the entire Van Gulik family, Peter, Annemarie, Nina, Mara and Paul, to thank them for the time and effort they put into the club. That’s what we need, entire families pitching in to make VRA a success. Get where the action is!

Harold and Floris then presented 21 slides with just as many Committees on the big screen. That sounds very official, but it was all very informal and easy to absorb. Whoever takes a seat on a committee will know exactly what they need to do, and who they’ll be working with to get it done. Starting this season everything will be crystal clear. Nice detail: the head of each committee can draw up a year plan together with the committee members. Plenty of good club spirit is already in the air, judging by the willingness of those present and those lending support from afar.

Preview 2019

The focus of the evening was the Preview, including the new setup of all aspects of the club. A clear overview was provided of what needs to be done, chopped up into bite-sized tasks, just like the members want. Goal: A: assigning all tasks, big and small, structural and incidental, amongst club members, and B: ensuring that everyone will be making a contribution. This will make VRA a vibrant community and then a higher level of commitment will naturally develop. After all, VRA is there FOR its members and BECAUSE of its members. The great thing is: you don’t have to worry about being stuck with a job for years if you say YES to it. You can sign on for an incidental task such as helping out for a day at an ODI, or for structural work within one of the committees, or even on the Board. For the last one, mind you, you’ll have to commit a tad more time.

Many hands, light work

What this all boils down to is that more members are going to be getting involved in the nitty gritty of running the club. And that’s a good thing because the Board has quite a lot on its plate. And as the saying goes, many hands make light work. Hopefully also during the BUILD UP DAY on Saturday 6 April. To help get the clubhouse ready for the season, each team is expected to show up with at least 4 men/women. Captains ...? We are also looking for a place to stay for two of our top players. Floris and his committee, consisting of Harold Horsman, Jeroen A.G. Mulder, Willem van Mierlo and Nigel Drenthe, concluded the particularly amiable evening with the presentation of the Paul Polak Prize to Sieb Mulder, VRA’s most eminent volunteer. Another highlight of the evening was a dazzling Cricket Quiz with the Kahoot! app, won by Prasun Banerjee and Richard Finlay.
