VRA U13 70 v 0 - Rood en Wit 69 a.o.

Another fine early summer morning greeted VRA’s arrival at Rood en Wit for their second match in this year’s U13 Top league.

Put in the field good accurate spells from openers Shahir and Shashank kept the pressure on the batsmen and with two fine catches from Willem and Christian only 10 was on the board after the first 4 overs. Second and third change Kiran and Thomas continued that pressure with more good fielding supporting the bowlers. At 20 for 3 after 7 Rood en Wit started to run their singles and move the scoreboard forward, but this was halted by the inspired combination of Karanvir’s pace and Matthew’s wily spin.

At 66 for 4 the game was in the balance but was turned on its head as the pressure from the bowling and fielding display produced an amazing 6 wickets in 2 overs with Karanvir taking 3 wickets in an over with catches by Shahir and Thomas, and Matthew’s over yielding another 3 (a Guy-Shahir run-out sandwiched by 2 wickets for Matthew – a wonderful team hat-trick). The second hat-trick in two weeks had reduced Rood en Wit to a total of 69.

VRA’s measured response produced a 10-wicket win with Kiran 34 not out and Hugo blunting the opposition attack for 7 not out. A number of extras completed the total and VRA had chalked up their second win in two.

A sporting Rood en Wit offered to complete their 30 over allocation and some useful batting practice was had by Gurwinder, Thomas, Willem, Guy, Christian and Shahir as the boundary was peppered with fours and sixes to underline the all-round strength of the VRA team.
